Industrial designer
Barcelona / 1921 – 2006
Leopoldo Mila between 1990 and 1991 dedicated his time to modernize his CERDANYA and CADAQUES models incorporating a closable door into both models. Being a great lover of fire, his feelings were mixed after having closed it in. He feels the need to liberate it. Realizing that the closing door system was a huge improvement he decided to design the model we now call BETA. Leopoldo Mila began in the world of architecture as technical director and designer of the mythical motor cycle company Montesa. Resulting from this collaboration was the highly successful Impala model, winner in 1962 of “Delta de Oro” from ADI-FAD. Five years later he created the trial bike called COTA 247, with which he received in 1968 the critics prize and the “Delta de Plata”. To celebrate the Twenty fifth anniversary of ADI-FAD he was awarded the “Delta de Oro” for his work on the COTA. This being considered a model from which all later trial bikes were designed. Leoplodo Mila continued designing pieces for Montesa through his industrial design business Polinax. Polinax continues to be renowned for its metallic chimneys designed by a team of well known designers. From these collaborations have risen BETA,CADAQUES AND CERDANYA. In 1984, with his brother, Luis Maria Mila DAE is born.
