Joaquin Belsa, is studying projects at the Llotja School in Barcelona. He starts his career in a cabinetmaking workshop where he discovers his vocation for design. Later he works with the decorator and antiquarian Ferran Povo. At the beginning of the fifties he made, in collaboration with his brother Jaume, the first own designs.
It is a very simple lights, functionalist character. Later, he designed a series of furniture, some of which were even copied by different companies. Between 1956 and 1961 he worked for the company Manbar as a designer and interior designer. In 1961 he created the furniture company Arista. For twenty-two years, he designs furniture for mass production and shows his interest in the social significance of the object of use. He was a member of the first ADI / FAD board and his products have been awarded several Delta Awards (1961, 1963 and 1970).
